IHSA’S 1ST AND 2ND GRADE CLASS

were provided with a disposable camera to take home, and asked to take 7 pictures that reminded them of Fall.  After they were developed, we asked each student to present their opinions of their photos.  We expanded this artwork to a Mini-Art Gallery where we linked their Science Curriculum (Functions of a Tree), Their Language Arts Curriculum (Writing Complete Sentences & Speech Deliveries) and our journal theme ( 5 senses and the weather).  This is just a glimpse of what we accomplished.

TRY THIS AT HOME WITH YOUR OWN DIGITAL CAMERA

We have prepared some MORE fun reminders that may help your child with  everything from organizational help to academic and memory enhancements.  Visit this page once in a while to see what exciting, fun ideas we suggest for your children.

 YOU MAY ALSO ENJOY……..

Here are a couple of fun activities to keep in mind.

1. Make a Herbarium:

How?…

Collect flowers while you visit, press them (place flowers on newspaper, cover with newspaper and place heavy books on top; wait a week and they should be all pressed :)), then glue them on 11×16 card stock, complete by dating,  signing and writing the place where they were found.  For older children, they can find the specimen names in Latin and then frame!

Be a Botanist: Make Herbarium Sheets

2. Paint Rocks For Paper Weight Gifts

How?….

Collect rocks while on your latest adventure, Paint completely with 1 or several colors, then (after that dries), paint a phrase or draw a symbol or picture over it that reminds you of that venue.  It’s better than a post card because it’s all Their Creation!

CHILDREN’S MUSEUM OF RICHMOND

SAVE MONEY WHILE  EXPLORING A CHILD’S WORLD!

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Backpacks are a great invention…until, of course, your kid stuffs a few too many loose papers into the bottom, tops them off with a dead sandwich or two, and suffers one of those classic  Water Bottle Slow Leak Fiascos on the way to school one day. You know who you are!!!
TRY THIS CREATIVE ORGANIZING TOOL
You Will Need:
  • Backpack, books, and your child’s everyday lunchbox
  • 4×6” index card
  • Fine point black pen
  • Colored Pens
  • Ruler
  • Laminator (available at  local copy stores, or small home units are available at office supply stores)
Once you buy just that special book bag, you and your child make a list of the items he/she will need to pack.  Include all things that will be necessary for his/her academic success.
Give each item a home!  Write a reminder of the item and it’s home on an index card. Decorate it if you wish.
After each card is complete, take it to your local copy store (Staples, Kinko’s etc.) and laminate them.  Cut them and slip them in each pocket or section.
Then he/she can practice packing and timing how long the packing takes will make it FUN FUN FUN!!
Know this: you are making a difference!  Educational experts agree that good organization is one of the most important study tools for a successful student—not just now, but for all the years of school ahead.
