As September nears and I continue to have no option for my daughter (4yrs-starting pre-k this year ) and other muslim children who’s parents are feeling forced to have their children placed in public school, I literally cringe and successfully hold back tears because of the feeling of loss and confusion on how to best solve this problem for myself and others. I have ideas but I am finding it hard to come up with a plan to solve the problem. If anyone has advice, guidance or suggestions about how we can start a home school program in our area please reply to mykindofscrubs@yahoo.com. How did you all start this program and how can we do the same for our children.

Thank You and may Allah guide you and myself,
    Sis. Niger Hall

      As Salaamu Alaikum Sis. Niger,
YES! I do understand how hard it is to think of the bleak future that public schools hold for our children. May I ask which city-state you are looking to start a home school co-op in?

      As Salaamu Alaikum Sister,
We are not familiar with home schooling regulations for Ohio, as we are located in Virginia. I would suggest that you google “Home School Coop Ohio” and see what pops up or network with families at the masjid that may already be home schooling and start your own co-op. InshAllah, you will find great options for your children.

      Walaikum Salaam Sister Zakkiyah,
You are making a great choice for the education of your son! I would first become a member of your state’s home educators group. They will send helpful and timely information to help you on this journey. I would also speak with other home school parents to see if you could pool resources and again share information. A helpful tip on finding these parents are to go to libraries during the school day. Home School parents and children may be taking that time for library help. Lastly, look into recreation centers schedules in your area. Lots of times, they offer art based programs to home school children only!
We look forward to you sharing your progress with us!

      Sister Malikah,
Unfortunately, IHSA closed it’s doors after 20 years. About 4 of our students’ families chose to home-school their children from home, 3 chose to send their children to public school. All of the rest enrolled at a local Islamic School. We leave this site open for other home schoolers to browse and get ideas from. Hope this helps and I hope you find the best solution for you and your family!
